Statement from Congressman Doc Hastings on the Administration’s FY2014 Budget Request for Hanford
Congressman Doc Hastings (WA-04) released the following statement today regarding the Obama Administration’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget request for Hanford:
“The budget request released today for cleanup is unusually short on details. This lack of information coupled with the continued uncertainty surrounding the Department of Energy's reprogramming package make it impossible to determine the true impacts of the request on the Richland Operations Office or the Office of River Protection. The Administration has provided no explanation of exactly where or how the requested funding would be spent. Complete information about the proposed spending plan and answers to basic questions about the path forward for WTP and the tanks will be required as Congress works through the appropriations process for Fiscal Year 2014.
“In addition to working to secure appropriate funding for the Richland Operations Office and the Office of River Protection for next year, I will seek to stop the $60 million included in this budget request to continue this Administration's illegal shutdown of Yucca Mountain. The Administration is again proposing to circumvent the law, erase decades of work on a national repository, and take us back to square one.”
