Hastings Announces 2012 Nuclear Cleanup Caucus Site Briefings

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Doc Hastings (WA-04), Chairman of the House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus, today announced the schedule for the 2012 annual briefing series on the Department of Energy’s nuclear cleanup program.
“During my time in Congress I have found that these briefings help educate and update my colleagues and their staff about nuclear cleanup issues,” Hastings said. “The fact is cleanup doesn't happen in Washington, DC - its accomplished out at our sites in our communities. Hearing unvarnished reports from those on the front-lines at our EM sites is critical for us - and that's what I hope to get out of these briefings."
Each briefing focuses on a specific site with presentations conducted by local site managers and contractors. This year there will be an additional briefing focusing on safety throughout the EM complex. Hastings hopes to add a briefing on the status of the repository for high level defense waste later this year. The briefings are open to Members of Congress, congressional staff, the news media and other interested individuals. Following is the schedule:
