Hastings Encourages Seniors to Review Their Medicare Rx Options

Congressman Doc Hastings is encouraging Central Washington seniors to carefully review their Medicare Prescription Drug plan options in preparation for the upcoming open enrollment period that begins November 15 and continues through December 15.  This is an opportunity for seniors without Medicare prescription drug coverage to signup, and those who are already enrolled have the opportunity to change their plan.  For seniors who wish to continue with their current prescription drug plan, no action is required.

“The most important part of Medicare prescription drug coverage is that seniors are given choices and can pick the plan that best meets their needs,” Hastings said. “I encourage seniors to review their options during the open enrollment window and find the coverage that is right for them.”

In 2003 a bipartisan law was enacted, with Hastings’ support, that is providing seniors help paying for the prescription drugs they need for the first in the history of the Medicare program.  The voluntary prescription drug benefit offers seniors several choices of prescription drug plans with affordable premiums, low deductibles and extra help for seniors who need it most.

There are many resources available to answer questions and help guide seniors through the process of reviewing available prescription drug plans and choosing one that best meets their needs.  To get started, Hastings encourages seniors to call 1-800-MEDICARE, contact the Statewide Health Insurance Advisors at 1-800-633-4227 or visit www.medicare.gov to read the “2008 Medicare and You” handbook.

Hastings Calls for Expanding Health Care Access

Last week Congressman Hastings, a member of the bipartisan Rural Health Care Coalition, highlighted the need for making access to health care easier and more affordable for Americans.

"I support proposals to increase health care choices, make health costs tax deductible, expand health savings accounts and make it easier for small businesses to afford to offer health benefits to their employees.  We must reduce regulations so that doctors and nurses can focus more on patients, not paperwork - and control unnecessary lawsuits that are driving up the cost of health care for everyone."
