Congressman Hastings recently spoke at a Northwest RiverPartners forum in the Tri-Cities.  He focused on the valuable role of renewable hydropower in producing American-made energy and protecting the environment.

"Everyone agrees that work must be done to move towards a cheaper, cleaner, more efficient and more diverse energy system.  Hydropower is our nation’s largest renewable power source and is a vital part of the solution.  Instead of efforts to remove dams and limit their value as renewable energy sources – our region must seek ways to maximize the benefit of our dams through incentives for increased or more efficient hydropower generation.”

Congressman Hastings supports an all-of-the-above plan that includes:
  • Promoting the value of hydropower dams.
  • Expanding non-emitting nuclear power.
  • Increasing water storage.
  • Taking advantage of agriculture and wood waste products to generate energy.
  • Encouraging world-class scientists at the Pacific Northwest National Lab to explore new forms of energy.
  • Cutting taxes and reducing regulations on American energy production.
  • Making it easier for free markets and personal freedom to foster innovation and to improve our quality of life.
  • Increasing wind, solar and other new energy sources.
  • Drilling for oil in Alaska and offshore.
