Federal Budget
Every day, families and businesses across the nation face the realities of limited budgets and must make difficult choices about how best to save and spend their money. Congress faces those same realities and difficult decisions.
Further reduction of the deficit and continued job creation must be priorities. To meet these goals Congress must uphold its responsibility to spend taxpayer dollars wisely and look at ways to control federal spending.
In my view, a balanced approach is needed, one that provides for our most central needs, while reducing the deficit so that our children and grandchildren are not left to foot bill.
In order to avoid future deficit increases or tax increases Congress must prioritize federal spending and carefully review all programs to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse. Common sense tells us that within a $2.4 trillion budget there are areas that can be scrutinized for inefficiencies and reduced over time in order to achieve a balanced budget. This includes programs that would otherwise grow automatically every year without Congressional action and currently comprise over half of the total federal budget.
Reducing the deficit requires difficult choices, but these choices must be made if we are to continue meeting our most urgent priorities, while reducing the debt we pass on to future generations.
