(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Doc Hastings (WA-04) today released the following statement after House Democrats unveiled a brand new health care bill that they plan to bring to the House floor for a vote as soon as next week.
“Here we go again. This 1,990 page, $894 billion bill is the product of closed-door-Democrat-only negotiations conducted without a single public meeting. It is evident, though, that this bill is just another government takeover that will result in bigger government and more spending. It would ration care, cut Medicare, jeopardize existing health plans, raise taxes, penalize small businesses and restrict savings tools like health savings accounts – all without lowering costs.
“I am hopeful that Speaker Pelosi will allow open debate on other approaches. I believe health reform is needed and must focus on lowering costs. I support increasing choices, making health costs tax deductible, expanding health savings accounts, ending lawsuit abuse and making it easier for small businesses to afford to offer benefits.”
